  What companies are missing and why it matters

  As with any enterprise technology, there are benefits and challenges when creating IT environments in the public cloud. The benefits include cost savings and the ability to easily scale up and down (just to name a few). Challenges present a double-edged sword: on the one hand, the scale and reach the cloud provides enables massive scale, but you’re also confronted with regional issues in terms of privacy, such as complying with GDPR, and related challenges when it comes to visibility (you wouldn’t want to accidentally collect private information from the UK and then display it on a dashboard in Texas). Your monitoring tool should surface business-critical information in a way that doesn’t break any laws. More on that later.

  In order to determine the health and current state of your systems, monitoring by its very nature requires access to internal and external services. Traditionally, users have had to get creative in terms of how they expose sensitive information (secrets, like access credentials) to their monitoring tool; operators typically would leverage local environment variables or give up entirely by putting secrets in the monitoring configuration. But, by putting secrets into your configuration, you’re giving your visibility tool too much visibility, making the wrong data visible to too many eyes.

  The appeal of running workloads in containers is intuitive and there are numerous reasons to do so. Shipping a process with its dependencies in a package that’s able to just run reduces the friction of organizational communication and operation.   We're making temporary EOL repositories available for Sensu Core 1.x & Sensu Enterprise 3.x to help you prepare for the upcoming EOL dates.

  Earlier this year, we reached an important early milestone for the next-generation Sensu Go platform with the General Availability of commercial support for Sensu Go. A few weeks later, we announced that Sensu Core 1.x – the original Sensu open source project – would reach end of life (EOL) on December 31, 2019, and that commercial support for Sensu Enterprise (latest version 3.x) would reach EOL on March 31, 2020.   This time last year, Sensu Go hadn’t been released in General Availability (GA) yet. Now, 10 months later, version 5.14 is in production environments, monitoring infrastructure, applications, and connected devices across public and private clouds.
