How do I find a solaris system in a rack?
-
An extremly very useful command if you need to find or locate system in a rack of serveral systems, it can be time consuming and just annoying find a system when you have many of them, more recent solaris systems support the locator command, which switches on the locator LED on the solaris system, used in the following way, to turn on:
# locator -n
To turn off:
# locator -f
To turn on
This not only switches on the locator LED on the front and back of the system, it is a bright LED, so it's easy to notice, just remember to switch it off after you have finished with your work
The command is also useful if you have not labelled your machine and just want to identify it in a data center with hundreds of systems
The same function is also available in the System Controller ALOM interface
