$ pyenv version-name
system

You can also see it using pyenv versions The one with the asterisk is the current version being used.

$ pyenv versions
* system (set by /home/trainer/.pyenv/version)
  2.7.15
  3.8.5
  3.8-dev

Note: system version of python is the default global version after pyenv is installed.
