How do I load kernel modules at boot time?

  • This is used for persistent changes.

    Kernel modules are in /lib/modules/{kernel_version}/kernel/ find the kernel module name. For example: sierra.ko.xz

    Create a file /etc/modules-load.d/{kernel-module-name}.conf

    $ pwd
    /etc/modules-load.d
    $ sudo echo sierra > /etc/modules-load.d/sierra.ko.conf

    Reboot system if not being used. then check if your kernel module is loaded.

    $ lsmod | grep sierra
    sierra                 24576  0
