What is the package manifest in redhat 8?

  • The package manifest are all the packages that make up Redhat 8. Some are mandatory some are optional.

The packages on Redhat 8 are split up into repositories:

    BaseOS - OS required packages.
    AppStream - User type packages.
AppStream modules - Are groups of RPM packages for a specific tools or apps, these are versioned.
Code Ready Linux Builder - Are packages for developers and not supported by Redhat.
Supplementary Repository - Packages that have a proprietary license and not open source.
High Availability Add-On - Available via separate subscription, for cluster node failover.
The Resilient Storage Add-On - Available via separate subscription for share storage devices in a cluster.

The AppStream module is a new concept on Redhat, the intention appears to be for granularity and better management between OS and User packages. The user type packages have a faster update cycle. If you have used snaps under Ubuntu the concept is along those lines.
