How do I search for a command in the man pages?

On most systems this will work, if it does not work then a "whatis" database needs to be created first, this holds a list of the man pages. The command "catman" is used to create the database for the man pages.

The following example checks to see if the man page "catman" exists, man, is short for manual

$ man -k catman
