    A Brief History Of Unix

Absolute respect to the original UNIX Guru's, the inventors of the UNIX Operating System, Dennis Ritche & Kenneth Thompson. The computer industry and information technology would not be where it is today, if it were not for these two chaps! For those of you who are new to Unix or computing, I cannot emphasise this fact enough.

    Unix was born in 1969.
Dennis Ritche & Kenneth Thompson invented the Unix Operating System.
Dennis Ritche & Kenneth Thompson worked on a operating system called Multics, prior to UNIX.
Ealrly machines used to test Operating Systems were DEC PDP-10, SDS (later Xerox) Sigma 7 and GE-645.
It was actually 1970 when the name UNIX was given to the operating system, by Brian Kernighan as a pun on Multics.
UNIX first ran on a DEC PDP-7.
It later ran on DEC PDP-11 a higher specification computer.
At that time the primary use for Unix was for a programming environment.
On the topic of programming, Dennis Ritche & Kenneth Thompson also invented the C Programming Language, a language closely tied into the core of UNIX Operating System.
So UNIX was born! A very popular Operating System, a multiuser, multitasking, and portable operating system and still widely used today.

The computer systems mentioned above are of course out of date, now more technologically advanced computer systems are in place, which continue to use more advanced UNIX operating systems.
