How do i install docker community edition on ubuntu?

If you type just docker it will tell you docker is not installed but give you a hint as to what to do, but read the rest of the article.
$ docker The program 'docker' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: $ sudo apt install docker.io
You can simply install using this command, but if you want to update more frequently use the step below this command.
$ sudo apt install docker.io
Install the pre-reqs.
$ sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl software-properties-common
Add the docker GPG key and verify it.
$ curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add - OK $ sudo apt-key fingerprint 0EBFCD88
Add the ubuntu docker repo for amd64
$ sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) stable"
Update the packages for the repo you just added.
$ sudo apt-get update
Install the docker community edition.
$ sudo apt-get install docker-ce
