How do I ping a ipv6 addresses?
-
Also see: the man page for ping.
Here we are just pinging the ipv6 localhost, but any ipv6 address can be used, provided it is allowed ICMP ipv6 traffic.
$ ping6 -c 4 ::1 PING ::1(::1) 56 data bytes 64 bytes from ::1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.026 ms 64 bytes from ::1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.034 ms ... ... ...
The following format also works:
$ ping -6 -c 2 ::1 PING ::1(::1) 56 data bytes 64 bytes from ::1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.025 ms 64 bytes from ::1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.032 ms --- ::1 ping statistics --- 2 packets transmitted, 2 received, 0% packet loss, time 54ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.025/0.028/0.032/0.006 ms
