Six Years in a Row! NetApp Again a Leader in Gartner 2018 Magic Quadrant for General-Purpose Disk Arrays

  • In any competition, getting to the top step of a podium is gratifying, but staying on top year after year takes continued dedication, focus, and hard work.

In 2013, Gartner first recognized NetApp as a Leader in their Magic Quadrant (MQ) for General-Purpose Disk Arrays, and we’ve remained in the Leaders quadrant for 6 consecutive years. This month, Gartner published their 2018 research, and NetApp moved farther to the right in Completeness of Vision and higher in Ability to Execute. In the MQ for General-Purpose Disk Arrays, Gartner evaluated 17 vendors that sell into the end-user market with branded disk and hybrid arrays. For NetApp, that’s our hybrid-flash midrange and high-end FAS systems as well as our midrange E-Series systems.

In the digital economy, customers demand a cloud-connected infrastructure that’s ready to handle current and future requirements, such as artificial intelligence (AI) innovation and agile DevOps. In the MQ, we are confident that Gartner recognized the value of our Data Fabric strategy to address these ever-changing needs by simplifying and integrating data management between public and private clouds. Customers are enthusiastically embracing the NetApp Data Fabric to achieve better business outcomes by unleashing the power of their data and accelerating digital transformation.

My team and I meet with customers every week. They tell us that to run their business-critical applications effectively, they need all-flash and hybrid-flash systems. We’ve listened and are delivering a leading portfolio of both. Gartner has recognized NetApp as a Leader not only in the MQ for General-Purpose Disk Arrays but also in the 2018 MQ for Solid-State Arrays.

Gartner also just published their 2018 Critical Capabilities reports for High-End and Midrange General-Purpose Arrays. In these reports, NetApp high-end FAS9000 and midrange FAS8200 systems achieved the highest scores for all the key customer use cases that Gartner evaluated: Cloud, Consolidation, OLTP, Analytics, and Server Virtualization and VDI. It’s the second consecutive year for the FAS9000 to achieve that.

We have built an industry-leading portfolio based on the flexibility of the NetApp ONTAP® data management software which can scale up and out to support growing business requirements. And we deliver the most cloud-connected infrastructure that’s integrated with the major hyperscalers and that supports modern cloud automation tools such as Ansible and Kubernetes. We’re pleased Gartner recognizes that our Data Fabric strategy has expanded customer conversations beyond storage infrastructure challenges to broader business objectives.

I’m proud that we’ve achieved the top step of the podium. We intend to stay there through continued dedication, focus, and hard work to provide our customers with the solutions they need to be successful.
