What is VCS

  • What is VCS?

VCS is computer system clustering software from Symantec Corp. The software was previously owned by Veritas.

The VCS stands for Veritas Cluster Server.

Multiple systems are connected together using a private network, with redundant network interface connections. Storage arrays are attached to the systems via a Fibre Channel network.

For VCS to work it has two components call LLT (Low Latency Transport) and GAB (Group Membership and Atomic Broadcast) Ther LLT provides kernel to kernel and private network connection status. The GAB keeps system states in sync and monitors disk communications.
