Diagram - chef server components

This is a high-level component diagram of the chef server software.

It shows the central component the Chef Server; The Manage is a web interface with an API to communicate with the Chef Server, The Chef Client runs on the nodes/clients, they pull their configuration from the Chef Server. Bookshelf used to store cookbooks, a cookbook on a high-level is the chef code to make configuration changes on devices. The Chef Server is accessible if you have a user account on the Chef Server. The knife tool is used to manage your chef-repo, the chef code to make changes to devices/server, etc. The chef-repo usually is under source code management of some kind, usually GitHub.
