  In this blog post, we’ll introduce you to WebAssembly. We’ll start with a history lesson on the Assembly language, which was created to make programming easier and boost productivity. Then we’ll move on to WebAssemby, a descendent of Assembly, and cover what it is, the problems it solves and how it does that. Assembly Decades ago, if you wanted to program a computer, you had to write binary code. We called it machine code because it is the native language of any computer (maybe this will change with the rise of quantum computing, but for now, every computer works on binary code).

  We are happy to share the v0.3.0 release of Rancher Desktop. This release brings more stability, some new features, and a fresh look to the UI. This screenshot shows the preferences screen while in dark mode on Mac. In the lower left corner the status when performing an action is now displayed. This status will tell you when Rancher Desktop needs to download something, such as a version of Kubernetes you have now used before, or when another step is happening.

  For those of us who need to get applications running in Kubernetes, having Kubernetes on the desktop is incredibly useful. When we want to focus on our applications, it’s especially useful when Kubernetes is easy to use. This is where Rancher Desktop comes in. Rancher Desktop provides easy-to-use Kubernetes and container management (something we’ll look at in a moment) for Mac and Windows. Having Kubernetes isn’t enough. Being able to choose your version of Kubernetes and even being able to test upgrading Kubernetes versions is important.

  Have you ever wanted to try K3s high availability cluster “mode,” and you either did not have the minimum three “spare nodes” or the time required to set up the same amount of VMs? Then you are in for a good treat: meet k3d! If you’re not familiar with k3d, its name gives you a hint to what it’s all about: K3s in Docker. k3d is a lightweight wrapper to run K3s (a lightweight, single <40MB binary, certified Kubernetes distribution developed by Rancher Labs and now a CNCF sandbox project) in Docker.

  Earlier this month the Kubernetes project discovered a security issue affecting multitenant clusters: If a potential attacker can already create or edit services and pods, then they may be able to intercept traffic from other pods (or nodes) in the cluster. An attacker that is able to create a ClusterIP service and set the spec.externalIPs field can intercept traffic to that IP. In the following image, a malicious party would be able to intercept traffic intended for Google’s public DNS server address ‘8.
